Pussy seems to follow me wherever I go!
There is pussy all over the Pratt campus (which causes the loudest, most horrible yowling I’ve ever heard),
and a ferocious pussy behind bars on Mahattan’s lower west side,
and even a pussy that can tear through a car’s roof to get at bad guys.
(I know, I know. Gross. But hey - I figure maybe I could stand to get a few hits. Google robots: cache away!)
So. About a week ago one of my external hard drives finally crashed all the way. It happened to have every digital photograph and video that I’ve ever made. Out of the nearly 300 gigs of data on the drive, I had only backed up 8.
I’m kind of beyond calling myself an idiot for not having DVD backups; I’m just really, really sad that I lost so much stuff. I had been working on semi-major video, comprised of hundreds of clips I had taken “incidentally” while shooting photos. All gone. And almost every digital photo, unless it’s been uploaded to my server (in which case printing is probably not in their future anyway).
But. To be honest, even though I will very much miss those images, I do not have an overly romantic relationship with most of my photographs, and I know that most of my photographs are saying the same thing anyway; do I really even need to have thousands of images? Is that better than one amazing photograph? Maybe losing all that work will force me to place more emotional stock in the images I make, creating much less work that can “mean” much more to me. Maybe not. Either way, I still keep making work, so I suppose it probably doesn’t matter in the long run. (Though I’m going to be shooting a lot more film than digital now. No better archive than a freaking piece of film stored properly.)
At least I really like starting things over… what else is a champion beginner good for?

8. The computer has 2 gigabytes of RAM now, and is much much much faster.

Every single day feels like a month that passes in an afternoon. It’s time for a vacation.
