Some New Work
A selection of uncorrected, uncropped, not cleaned images in no particular order from my recent scanscapades. I love Pratt’s Imacon so much.

Now I am looking forward to crit tomorrow. Maybe I should try and scan and print one or two. Or just get home and drink til 4am, and wake up just in time for class?
Tony, the girl and Knife and The burnt out window are pretty amazing photos. They would all look great printed big. You should be really happy with those ones. The others I am a little lost with… but we can talk more about that tomorrow. Good stuff.
Can you explain how you guys (youse guys?) show prints in crit? Digital prints? What size? etc. How comparable is it to the crits at UNL with Shelley or Dave?
Speaking of Nebraska Photo crits, I have seen several Interstate 80(Innerstate Aiddee) Sac F-105 aircraft highway shots but the one above is the best.
Thanks John - that’s probably my 20th photograph of that plane, and the 4th this year. I’ve been obsessed with that thing since I can remember.
As far as critiques at school go, they’re pretty similar to our experience at UNL in terms of format: we meet in a room, some people bring work, the professor talks a little bit or brings in some books, then we critique work for a couple hours. People show anything in the photo class - people show a lot of video and installation work, but there are actual photo prints too. Mine are digital, 8×10″ for initial edits and 16×20″ for finals. We show work as often as we are comfortable (or productive), but it does seem like the expectation is that that you’re constantly bringing in work, talking about it, modifying it or making new work, and bringing it back in, etc. I know Yale is different… Bradley?
There is a crit every Monday and 4 people show their work for about 1 hour. There is a five week rotation which results in 3 crits per semester. Each crit is comprised of 4 to 5 panelist (faculty and visiting artists) with the exception of the final crit of the semester which tends to have about 8 to 10 panelist. The student showing work sits in front of the table where the panel is seated. The class and anyone else who drops by, is seated behind the student. With so many people giving feedback, it is impossible to remember a lot of what is said, so we have a classmate basically write down everything. We also have individual crits on Tuesday’s with the visiting artist for the week. We tend to get about 30 to 40 mins with the VA. In both cases the work tends to be pinned to the wall as opposed to matted and on rails like it was at UNL. People tend to show work that is or is close to the expected final size (but not all of the time). Almost everyone is making inkjet prints with the Epson 9800. Let me know if you want to know anything else. Sorry if I bored the shit out of you.
