Last Friday, our good friends from Nebraska — eagle*seagull — played at the Mercury Lounge. They were great, and it was fun to have midwesterners represent here in NYC. Unfortunately, their van was not so great, and they got to spend a lot of money getting it towed off the Manhattan bridge (at 4:30 in the morning), and then towed again later that morning to a repair shop for a new radiator hose. Nothing like being in a band, huh?
Brendan emailed me this morning with a couple of links to new Her Flyaway Manner songs. I’ve listened to both of these about ten times in a row and feel much better about my lost data.
Check these out for the best aural experience of your week: Bruises & Follow
And in other music news: Tessa and I have seen Battles play twice this April. They are better than ever before, with funny voices and an uncanny ability to synch themselves with samplers. Their latest record is also good for computer problems.
Um… excuse me, but there’s a little Thunderstandable in your mustache…
The last time I talked to Brendan McG, he said that he was almost finished with the as of yet unreleased recordings, so hopefully there will be some new music up soon. And, while Brendan McC was here in Brooklyn, we recorded a couple of strange songs that will also be posted in the near future. Keep your eyes on keys tend to fall out of ignition!
The school’s system changes a computer’s IP address each time its turned on, and it only keeps this information for month. After that month, the school has no way of associating an IP address with a computer or its user. The RIAA is angry about this, and a spokesman for the group criticized the university for not understanding “the need to retain these records”. This is a ridiculous complaint. The university doesn’t have a need to retain these records, and there’s no reason it should do so out of some obligation to the RIAA. If there were any doubt that the university is really irritated by the RIAA’s requests, it has requested that the RIAA pay the university to reimburse its expenses from dealing with this (good luck with that).
Ha! UNL has bigger intellectual balls than I would’ve thought from a big state school reliant upon football money.
I’m proud to call the University of Nebraska my alma matter. (Now.)
I’ve put up a new page (found over there on the left, under the heading “Contents”) called MP3s, featuring (you guessed it) MP3 files of songs I’ve (poorly) recorded over the last couple of years. Please download them and enjoy. (I said enjoy, damn it!)
Champion Beginner is written by Justin Kohmetscher, who currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, is midway through his MFA, and has a lot of fun with Tessa and Tony.
